Sammy

SammySammy is a two-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the second dog owned by Charles and Betty Stallings to become a dedicated volunteer dog. Sammy is a “Paws for Reading” volunteer, and has been featured on television and in newspaper and magazine articles.  He lives in Pleasanton, California.

Sammy’s story follows in the tradition of a similar e-Volunteerism article written by Mikey, Charles and Betty’s beloved Shih Tzu and their first volunteer dog who recently passed away. Like Mickey, Sammy shared his stories and observations with Charles, who wrote them up on his computer.

Charles Stallings has a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin and over three decades of work experience as a physicist and manager. He is now retired. His last position was General Manager of a $30M/year Research and Development Company. His other current volunteer positions include being a director of two international professional organizations. He has spent many hours attending volunteer meetings and conferences, mostly as an accompanying person. While raising their family, the Stallings often volunteered as a family in such programs as Special Olympics and The Berkeley Foreign Host Program.
