Here in central Indiana, the local DOVIA follows Andrea's path and is aptly named "Central Indiana Association of Volunteer Administration" or CIAVA for short.

Our local association is called DOVIA. However, I think that building a stronger connection to AVA (Association for Volunteer Administration) is very important. I would like to see us use some variation on AVA, something with the city/county/state location included.

Here in the UK we have SAVM (Scottish Association of Volunteer Managers) and NVMF (National Volunteer Managers Forum), the latter covering England. I'm not sure about networks in Wales and Northern Ireland. The problem with NVMF is that, being a national network, it tends to prevent local organsations who cannot afford travel to London from joining. Also the name causes confusion - is it for local volunteer management practitioners, or for those who lead the volunteer programme throughout the country, or both? Thankfully, the NVMF is six months into a three year project to bring it up-to-date and relevant to all of us in the field in England. Details of SAVM and NVMF can be found at http://www.vds.org.uk/savm.htm and http://www.volunteering.org.uk/volunteering/nvmf/. By the way, to us, CVS is a Council for Voluntary Service - a local independent body that promotes the voluntary sector and volunteering. Some Volunteer Bureaux (brokerage agencies)are within or closely associated with CVS's.

Leaders in Volunteerism (LIV) is the name of our organization which has been in existence for more than 25 years. LIV serves the Metro area surrounding Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We are currently discussing how we too can better serve our members. We have established a relationship with our Community College and they offer a Certificate in Volunteer Management which meets a continuing education need for our organization. We have monthly meetings with an educational program and networking 2 times a year. Our organization has not affiliated with a national professional organization and we are currently revisiting that issue. I am most interested in this topic and will be taking the information to our members
