Jana Mendez, Volunteer Initiatives Coordinator for Boulder County Government in Boulder, Colorado explains how she managed to integrate training on how to work with volunteers into a mandatory training session on employee supervision for middle management employees.

I knew the importance of “enculturation” – of welcoming volunteers into our entire workforce. But how best to do it? Getting to the supervisors of the employees who come into frontline contact with volunteers seemed an avenue with much potential.

Jana shares her techniques, several of her exercises and handouts, and her PowerPoint presentation – all adaptable by any agency.

Wonderful, Jana. I am so excited that you have reported this and shared your materials with us. I know a coordinator at a Hospice who was able to do a similar training with all new staff each time they had new employee orientation and she found the attitudes changing towards the volunteers, for the better, after about a year.

I love the Bingo and can't wait to use it myself.
