Stephanie Ashley Caban (she/her) started her career with Reading Partners in NYC, partnering with Title I schools in East Harlem, Jamaica and Queens Village to increase children's literacy rates with volunteer tutors. In 2018, she pivoted to social services at Part of the Solution in The Bronx, specifically focusing on volunteerism, food insecurity and housing insecurity. She often led conversations relating to human dignity, saviorism and advocacy.
In 2022, she joined the team at Riverside Park Conservancy, focusing on community engagement and horticulture. Caban regularly holds discussions on inaccessibility in nature and health disparities as a part of her work in West Harlem and Washington Heights, engaging community to bring love to public spaces and advocate for environmental justice. In her spare time, she volunteers with the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, trying to pass the NY Health Act which will guarantee healthcare to all New Yorkers, as well as fight for community control of the Kingsbridge Armory, the largest armory in the world, or "The Bronx Castle."
As a licensed hiking guide, Caban is a volunteer Outings Leader with Latino Outdoors, leading monthly opportunities for our gente to enjoy the outdoors through hiking, bouldering, gardening and other adventures.
